We believe the best government is the one where citizens have access to information.  When transparency in government is lacking, citizens begin to distrust and lose faith in their elected officials. Corruption comes in many forms, including the misuse of public funds/taxpayer dollars. Greater transparency is one solution to making Columbus better for not only those who live here, but work here, or simply do their grocery shopping here. Lowndes County cannot thrive long-term if the heart of it—Columbus—is failing.

At A Better Columbus (ABC), we want to increase transparency by providing important data and reports to you. This way, citizens can be informed of what is going on right here in their own community. And use that information to make sound and informed decisions. As a result of our findinds, we now produce Columbus Matters newspaper. It is free to the public, but supported from donations from you. You may find the paper at local businesses around town, in our three newstands, and online at www.ColumbusMatters.net

Most of the information we provide or seek out at ABC is from citizens’ frustration and suggestions. Keep your ideas coming! If there is something you want to know but can’t find out? We’re here to help!
